Mortar & pestle 3
Mortar & pestle 3
I started making mortar and pestles originally because I needed one in the kitchen.
Then I visited Thailand, where mortars are a big part of life. This was very inspiring and made me change my design somewhat. I make them thick and sturdy so they should last a lifetime.
This pot came out of Pepino, the wood salt kiln at Pleasant Hill Pottery in Oregon. I fired it upside down so that the inside of the mortar was protected from the salt. This means it is a rougher raw clay surface… ideal for grinding spices and pastes in.
I throw the pestles off the hump. They are solid down at the business end and hollow up near the top.

My pots are microwave, dishwasher and oven safe. I make them with stoneware clay and fire until they’re vitrified, around 2350°F.
If a pot you like is sold out, just email me and I can make you a similar one! I also take commissions of all sorts; please email me if you have an idea.
I ship with USPS and UPS and send tracking information after sending each order.
I ship internationally; it’s no problem, but it may require a little extra postage. It’s hard to estimate as it changes from country to country. For these international orders, I will contact you if there is a discrepancy between what you pay and the actual cost.
