Squared Up Teabowl

Ah, teabowls. Or chawan. Or yunomi. The details of the differences in these forms can be found here: http://www.e-yakimono.net/html/yunomi-jt.html

Drinking tea from a teabowl is a special experience. I don't want to pontificate on the subject too much but I think a nice teabowl helps you slow down and consider the taste of the tea more, to meditate on it. I dream of teabowls.

One Japanese potter writes:

"Yunomi can be used by anyone, regardless of age, and it is also the last item removed from the dining table. It is there at our sides for many hours during the day and brings us comfort."

This one came out of Lara O’Keefe’s wood/salt kiln particularly nicely. I love how the iron dripped outside and inside the teabowl.
