Wide mouth mixing bowl

75.00

This was the first pot I made at my residency in Shigaraki. I was inspired to make a few of these by some very old mixing bowls I saw in Mashiko. One was in an exhibition about Bizen and the other was at the Hamada Museum. I’ve since seen other examples around too. They were obviously a commonly used item and widely made by potters. I was particularly drawn to the significant concave rim on them, so tried to emulate them here. This one is lined with a hiratsu shino. The hiratsu feldspar is famous around japan and not available in the states. It was a treat to get to use some!
